One last time, my pledge was:
'I, Kathryn of Kathryn’s Busy Town, sign up as a participant of Me-Made-May '13. I endeavour to wear one me-made or re-fashioned item of clothing or jewellery each day for the duration of May 2013'
I surprised myself by managing handmade or re-fashioned clothing every day for the whole month, although there were quite a few repeats. The thing that got the most repeats was my Colette Meringue skirt so I can see that I need to make some more basic skirts in bright colours - maybe branch out a bit from pink! It's also quite clear that there are some favourite colours here - pink, blue and yellow.
What have I learned from the experience?
- I wear more of my me-mades than I thought I did
- I should have more confidence in wearing the things I make as nothing has fallen apart yet, event the things I made a few years ago when I was just starting out
- Fellow sewers really are the most wonderful people - I can't exaggerate how much I enjoyed the support and comments of other sewers during MMM, and feel very lucky to have joined such a friendly and supportive community.
- I love colour - my winter wardrobe this year was just not 'me' - way too much dark colours, so this year I need to remedy this with some winter sewing in bright colours so my me-made winter wardrobe makes me as happy as my spring/summer one
- Sewing has really changed my attitude towards clothing and consumption - this was something I knew already but taking part in MMM has really confirmed for me my love of sewing and of taking a more active part in decisions regarding what I wear and how I consume
Thanks so much to everyone who commented on any of my photos on the Flickr group, or replied to posts here on my blog, I really appreciate it. I'm so glad to have met lots of new friends through MMM and now have so many new blogs to add to my feed!
Aww what a lovely round-up post! You looked AMAZING all May, thanks sooo much for taking part and sharing your wonderful, colourful and joyful self-stitched wardrobe with the rest of the participants. I was great to read everything you've learnt, or at least has confirmed, by participating. Good luck getting some fun colourful pieces that are Autumn/Winter appropriate, I'm sure they'll be a real mood lifter when those seasons draw in, for you and all those around you. Zoe xxx
ReplyDeleteThanks Zoe! and thank you so much for organising it all - what a feat! It's been such a great motivator to get on with more sewing. I look forward to seeing more of your maternity creations!
DeleteK, you were such a great sport during MMM. You had some great outfits and were just so generous with your time and comments. I don't know about you but it's taking me a while to settle down after the buzz of MMM. Anyway, I was going to do the pj party but probably won't now. What else is on the radar for you?
ReplyDeleteI know exactly what you mean Kirsty! I didn't quite know what to do with the extra time in the mornings at first, and it was a bit sad not checking the Flickr pool first thing. I was going to do the PJ party but have already started on the Scout tee one on Kollabora, and am thinking of the Maria Denmark t-shirt dress sewalong on Pattern Review, followed by BHL Victoria blazer sew-along, I think BHL girls said that would be July. That's probably enough for now!
DeleteOh and stick with pink, blue and yellow. They WORK!
ReplyDeleteI loved seeing all of your outfits, you were definitely one of my favorites! MMM reinforced my desire to have an all hand made wardrobe, I just need to tackle pants!! I think I will do the Scout sewalong, and I have some PJ pants planned for the pajama party :) But tonight I am sewing a Megan Nielsen Eucalypt dress, better get to work!!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Kelly! It's been great seeing about how inspired everyone is after MMM - long may it continue. Glad you're doing the Scout sew-along too, can't wait to see what you make!
DeleteYour outfits were very cute all month. I really enjoyed seeing your MMM posts. You should definitely wear your makes with confidence. They all look cute and well made. My list of to-makes is too long, and I have trouble deciding what I'm going to work on next. Ha! It's "eeny meenie miney mo" for me each time that I decide to sew something.
ReplyDeleteThanks Becca! I know what you mean about having trouble deciding what to sew next, I've got two things cut out now and can't decide which to sew first! I look forward to seeing what your next make is!
DeleteHi, I've really enjoyed seeing your me-mades. You're so right, it's been really great to see everyone's makes, so inspirational I don't have a clue where to start on my to do list either! :)
ReplyDeleteThank you! Glad it's not just me that's so indecisive!
